Mirror Magic

Project Description:

As part of my work with Citizen Film, I have worked for two years as a photography and videography teacher at an afterschool program in the Fillmore neighborhood of San Francisco. For the last summer I was there, I worked in collaboration with the teens to produce a zine that would celebrate their individuality and style. We asked each student to bring in an object that felt important to them and photographed them, asking them the question, ““when you look in the mirror, what do you see?” Photographs taken by the students throughout the year were shown throughout the book as well to show their community efforts and activites. The book was distributed amongst the students at the end of the project.
