About Zoe

Zoe Hertz is a multi-media artist from Chicago, now based in Oakland, CA.

Her eclectic work experiences, such as metalsmithing coordinator, high school paraprofessional, dance coach, server, respite worker, art teacher, community organizing facilitator, and community manager, have shown her the role that story-telling and creative practices play in working across difference and building community.

Zoe’s photography and films are inspired by the people she’s met and the relationships she’s built in these various environments. Using a simple and playful style, she seeks to more deeply explore the roles that creativity and empathy play in broader structural change.

Zoe’s artwork has been featured at the Art Institute of Chicago, KQED, the San Francisco Public Library (Main Branch), and Sonoma Community Center, and she has been an artist in residence at the Blue Sky Center in New Cuyama, California and at Gate 44 in Milan, Italy. Zoe is currently working as the Post Production Coordinator for Citizen Film and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
